Lt. James C. Houston, known as "The Kid," joined the 2nd Squadron, 22nd Bomb Group on 21 August 1942. In early 1943, when all remaining B-26s, reconditioned and assigned to the 19th as The Silver Fleet, Houston elected to stay with the Marauders. His reason: "I liked them." The 19th Squadron's name, The Silver Fleet, was Houston's inspiration. It was adopted after all paint had been removed from its Maruaders in an effort to gain a few more knots of speed. Houston also designed the winged logo which incorporates the squadron's former "Strike" insignia.
