In July 1943 after the 22nd Bomb Group's 22 remaining B-26 Marauders had been reconditioned they were assigned to the 19th Squadron. Stripped of paint to gain a bit more speed, they came to be known as the Silver Fleet. After moving to Dobodura, Papua, New Guinea the 19th Squadron resumed combat. On 19 August, proud of their now gleaming war birds, 97 members if the Engineering Section assembled in front of one of them for this photo. S/Sgt. Merrill S. Mathews, an electrical engineer, is pictured in the inset and in the second row, third from the left.
