Photo is believed to have been taken at Charters Tower, Australia in early 1944 shortly after delivery of new B-24Js. On 16 April 1944 Lt. Halper's crew flew in MISLEADING, B-24J #42-100204. The date is recorded in Fifth Air Force annals as Black Sunday. Returning from a 5th AF strike on Hollandia, the aircraft ran into an unpenetrateble weather front and were scattered all over Papua. Airmen killed or missing numbered fifty four. Fifty seven aircraft were lost or written off. Lt. Halper landed at Finchhafen and returned to Nadzab on the following day.
