From 20 November 1944 through 20 January 1946 the 22nd BG was stationed at Anquar, one of the Paulau Islands. The air strip was shared with a detachment of the Marine Corps that had driven off the enemy. The pictures in this collection were found by his son William among the papers of Marine Lt. Col. Frank Cline, a career Marine who enlisted as a private in 1942 and retired in 1974. At Anguar and again on Samar, Frank Cline was a radio operator with VMF-222. Known as the "Flying Deuces" and the "SeaBee Air Force." the squadron flew F4U Corsairs. During his 32 years as a Marine, Col. Cline served in the Pacific, Korea and Viet Nam. This photo of a Red Raider B-24 with marks signifying 63 missions permitted William to trace the nose art photos to the 22nd BG.
