To reach their New Guinea destination the airmen traveled via Fairfield Suisun AFB, CA, Hawaii, Palmyra, Canton, Tarawa, Guadacanal, and Biak before reaching Nadzab on 14 January. After a two-week combat indoctrination course, which included their first mission, the crew proceeded to Anguar, one of the Palau Islands. There, Lt. Scott reported to the 22nd BG which was temporarily stationed there before moving on to Samar in the Philippines.
