Gathered under the wing of a B-24 Liberator are nine members of the crew designated at the Walla Walla Army Air Field, Washington as Crew #B-55. Presumably, the tenth man is behind the camera. . Not necessarily in that order are, in the front row, Lt. Joseph E. Wingate, pilot.; Lt. Richard E. Woods, co-pilot'; Lt.. 'Joseph C. Werner, navigator; Lt. Donald L. Shawver, bombardier. The airmen are Cpl. Alfred D. Fulton, engineer; Cpl. Robert W. Walton, radio; Sgt. Bertholomew A. Carbone, asst. engineer; Cpl. Forrest C, Bricker, gunner' Cpl. Clinton E. Tibbetts, gunner; and Cpl. Edward O. Schultz, gunner. They shipped out to the West Pacific in September 1944. After one combat mission while at the replacement Training Center at Nadzab, New Guinea the crew was assigned to the 22nd BG, 408th BS.
