Posing in front of his tent at Nadzab, New Guinea in 1943 is Assistant Crew Chief S/sgt Al Forlini. Al had enlisted at Mitchell Field, NY in the 18th Reconnaissance Squadron, (designated the 408th Bomb Squadron in 1942) of the 22nd Bomb Group in 1939. Trained as an aircraft mechanic, Forlini worked on B-26 Marauders, B-27 Mitchells and B-24 Liberators in Australia, New Guinea, East Indies and the Philippines before being relieved from combat duty and returned Stateside in November 1944.
